Just watched @WilliamFriedkin s hard-nosed 80's crime thriller, #ToLiveAndDieInLA starring William Peterson & Willem Defoe.
Brutal, stylish, surprising, the film has gorgeous cinematography: buy the special edition if you can.
5/5
You may not have noticed but...@WilliamFriedkin directed the climactic car chase in TO LIVE IN DIE IN L.A. (1985) with all the traffic swapping direction to the opposite sides of the 110 heading into San Pedro. Intentional disorientation for an amplified visceral effect.
Currently enjoying some good wine with @WilliamFriedkin movie marathon. 'To Live and Die in LA' is our current masterpiece. Thank you thank you thank you Mr Friedkin. 💜
Thanks to packed crowd who came to see my HOW DOES IT FEEL? show at @LatitudeFest today. Lovely audience, and great impromptu performance of Drinks Before Dinner with long-time friend and fellow Bottler @MattOCasey
“TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (1985) is not just one of my favorite Friedkin films but easily one of my favorite thrillers from any decade. There is a balance of tones and moods that, having lived in LA now for a while, just *feels* like it represents so many flavors of the city."
“Friedkin had a way to build these worlds that live and breath with characters that are morally conflicted, leaving it up to the audience to decide how they perceive heroes and villains.”
