According to #KoopaTV's Ludwig, Game Builder Garage's viability will depend on the limitations the free programming mode places on project scope, and what options are available.
That said, the lack of a free game player option is...bad.

That's not an "only" thing, that's a big deal!
SMM isn't a "game maker" though; it's a level editor. Those are very different.
